This page is a space to share original songs made by Quakers. It includes creative work by the founders of Forward in Faithfulness, as well as songs and chants from other faithful Friends.  In many cases, these creations rose from experiences in worship.

MAY THE LIGHT
by Ben Bootsma and Johanna Jackson

Written in 2019 and recorded in 2022, this sweet, tender shares blessings and beauty. The song originated with a tune that rose in worship one evening.

Johanna Jackson of the Upper Susquehanna Quarter wrote the words. Ben Bootsma of Toronto (Ont.) Monthly meeting created the melody and arranged the instrumentals. Friends from the Upper Susquehanna Quarter (Pa.)  also contributed by coming up with positive metaphors for the dark.

WHAT I HEAR INSIDE MY BREATH
by Tony Martin and Johanna Jackson

Written in 2020, "What I Hear Inside My Breath" encourages faithful waiting, even in times of pain.

The words for this song rose from worship and a prayer.  Tony Martin of Roanoke (Va.) Friends Meeting created the melody, and the words are by Johanna Jackson of the Upper Susquehanna (Pa.) Quarter.

HEALING POWER

Jayden HC Sampson of Norristown (Pa.) Meeting wrote "Healing Power" in January of 2021. At the time, Jayden was attending a Pendle Hill workshop, "Chanting as a Spiritual Practice for Friends," which was led by Tony Martin and Paulette Meier.

That same weekend, Tony Martin of Roanoke (Va.) Friends Meeting added his voice to the song. Other Friends and family joined in, including Tony's grandchildren. Cai Quirk of New York Yearly Meeting added their voice in 2021, and  Johanna Jackson of Upper Susquehanna (Pa.) Quarter added hers in 2022.
